Dr. Lopez earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2024, following completion of his Master of Science in Chemical Engineering at the same university in 2018. His undergraduate training was obtained at the Technological Institute of the Philippines Manila, where he graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.
Dr. Lopez has served as a full-time academic staff member of the University of Santo Tomas Chemical Engineering Department since 2023. He currently acts as Chair of the Research Ethics Committee and Coordinator of the Library and Textbook and Learning Materials Committee of the Faculty of Engineering. He also serves as President of the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers Metro Manila East Chapter, with a term extending until 2027. His contributions to science and engineering were recognized through a Special Citation from the National Academy of Science and Technology during the 2025 Talent Search for Young Scientists.
Dr. Lopez’s research centers on sustainable materials and scalable systems addressing challenges in clean energy, environmental protection, and human health. Through the Green and Advanced Materials Research Group, his team develops functional materials for pollution control, water purification, and emission reduction, alongside systems for energy storage and conversion that support cleaner resource use. Research activities further encompass nanoscale sensing, surface engineering, and computational design with applications spanning environmental and biomedical fields.
