Ms. Nicole Elyse B. Saputil, a BS Chemical Engineering student, was named as the Best Oral Presenter in the recently concluded 2020 5th International Conference on Composite Materials and Materials Engineering (ICCMME 2020), held at Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea, January 13-16, 2020.
Her work, entitled "Iron and Sulfur Co-doped Titanium Dioxide Nanotubes: Optimization of the Photoelectrocatalytic Degra-dation of Phenol Red ," focused on response surface modeling to investigate the effects of initial phenol red concentration, applied voltage, and dopant loading on the degradation of phenol red in water. This can potentially impact the design and operation of visible-light operated photoelectrocatalytic reactors for the degradation of recalcitrant organic compounds in industrial wastewater.
The study was done with her thesis mates, Ms. Fiona Fritz Camiguing and Mr. Lance A. Loza, and in collaboration with Engr. Edgar Clyde R. Lopez, a PhD Chemical Engineering student, and Dr. Jem Valerie D. Perez, research adviser. Their work will be published in the peer-reviewed journal, Key Engineering Materials.
Over a hundred participants from various universities across the world joined the conference. Among the invited keynote speakers were Prof. Michael D. Guiver (Tianjin University, China), Prof. Ki Bong Lee (Korea University, South Korea), and Prof. Xiaohong Zhu (Sichuan University, China). Prof. C.Q. Ru (University of Alberta, Canada) and Prof. Juan C. Suárez-Bermejo (Technical University of Madrid, Spain), and Dr. Seok-Keun Koh (iCube Global, Korea) were invited as plenary speakers.
