ChE Dept Quizzers placed third in UPKEM's Inter-U Quiz Show

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Chemical Engineering (ChE) quiz team placed third at the Inter-University Chemical Engineering Quiz Show (Inter-U), held as part of the Students’ National Chemical Engineering Conference (SNCEC) 2024 at the University of the Philippines Diliman, held November 30, 2024.
Team 1, comprised of Mayumi Calpotura, Ralph Helson Abonal, Matthew Carl Agbayani, and Rona Vienne Silva, showcased exceptional skill and determination, advancing to the final round and earning the 2nd runner-up position. Their strong showing highlighted their extensive preparation and mastery of chemical engineering concepts.
Meanwhile, Team 2, represented by Vincent Joshua Guellen, Mary Krizabel Dela Cruz, Mariella Mergenio, and Nicholai Somera, delivered a commendable effort, narrowly missing a spot in the final round after a tightly contested clincher round. Despite falling short, their performance underscored the depth of talent within the UST ChE program,
The teams were expertly guided by their dedicated coaches, Engr. Rhovee P. Vistan, MSc, and Engr. Edgar Clyde R. Lopez, PhD. Under their mentorship, both teams demonstrated remarkable knowledge and problem-solving skills across a wide range of chemical engineering topics and allied sciences.
The competition featured teams from top universities across the Philippines, all vying for top honors in the highly competitive quiz show. The event tested participants’ understanding of core chemical engineering principles, as well as their ability to apply this knowledge to solve complex problems under time pressure.
