The UST Chemical Engineering Quiz Team proudly clinched third place at the National Quiz Bowl during the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE) National Student Congress 2024, held September 10, 2024. Representing the University, third-year student Ralph Helson M. Abonal joined forces with fourth-year students Mayumi M. Calpotura, Vincent Joshua C. Guellen, and Ryu Ohira under the expert guidance of their coaches, Engr. Edgar Clyde R. Lopez, PhD, and Engr. Rhovee P. Vistan, MSc. The competition took place at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City as part of the prestigious 85th PIChE National Convention.

The team faced off against twelve other esteemed universities in the PIChE National Quiz Bowl, an inter-university competition aimed at promoting academic excellence among Chemical Engineering students. This rigorous contest tested participants' knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and composure under pressure across a wide array of Chemical Engineering disciplines.

The PIChE National Quiz Bowl serves as a platform for future chemical engineers to showcase their expertise, as well as an opportunity to connect with fellow students and professionals in the field of chemical engineering. With this year’s victory, the ChE Department reinforces its reputation for fostering academic excellence and critical thinking skills among its students.

As the competition concluded, the team looks ahead to further challenges, ready to continue their pursuit of academic and professional excellence in the world of chemical engineering.
