Engr. Edgar Clyde Lopez joined the 13th International Particle Accelerator Conference (IPAC'22) at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center in Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi Province, Bangkok, Thailand, from June 12-17, 2022.
IPAC'22 is an annual international conference held to discuss the latest advances in accelerator research and accelerator facilities worldwide. The event is attended by more than 1,000 delegates and over 70 industry exhibitors. This year's IPAC'22 is hosted by the Synchrotron Light Research Institute (SLRI), the only particle accelerator in Southeast Asia.
The opening ceremony is graced by H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the Grand Diamond Ballroom, Impact Forum. It also featured a special plenary talk by Dr. Chris Polly from Fermilab who discussed the growing expectations for new physics. Dr.Prapaiwan Sunwong of SLRI also discussed their plans to construct a 4th generation particle accelerator in Southeast Asia.
Break-out sessions were held from June 12-17, 2022, featuring talks from researchers and students around the world. Among the topics that were discussed are the latest advancements in circular and linear colliders, particle accelerators, hadron accelerators, beam dynamics and instrumentation, and some applications of accelerator technology in biomedicine and materials science, among others. Moreover, a student poster competition was also conducted featuring cutting-edge research from various particle laboratories worldwide.
The conference ended on June 17 with the closing plenary talk of Tomoki Nakamura on how synchrotron light paved way for us to further understand the origins of the solar system.
The next edition of IPAC will be held in Venice, Italy, May 7-12, 2023.
