Engr. Edgar Clyde R. Lopez delivered a talk on research framework planning and optimization focusing on the design of experiments during the ChExploration 2022 held last July 30, 2022, via Zoom. With the theme "Maximizing Research Potential through Expanding Knowledge and Proficiency in Research and Plant Design," various Chemical Engineering students from Batangas State University attended the lecture.
Engr. Lopez first discussed the research process, such as identifying the problem, formulating the hypothesis, and building the conceptual framework. He also introduced different types of experimental designs with a focus on fractional factorial designs for screening experiments and response surface designs for optimization of the response.
After his lecture, he answered some questions from the participants, especially on selecting the appropriate experimental designs for their thesis. He emphasized that even though the results of the experiments do not agree with the hypothesis, it is still considered good research as long as it contributes new information to the scientific community.
Other speakers also provided a lecture during the event. Dr. Hui Lin Ong from the University Sains Malaysia delivered a talk on qualitative and quantitative analysis of materials through different characterization techniques. Meanwhile, Dr. Renson A. Robles from the Mathematics Department of Batangas State University discussed the adaptation of the latest statistical software for design modeling and data treatment.
