A seminar on research ethics and responsible conduct was held on February 12, 2026 at the Engineering Conference Room as part of the celebration of the 119th Engineering Week. Organized by the Research Ethics Committee, the event carried the theme “Research Ethics and Policy Frameworks for Responsible Conduct of Research” and brought together faculty members, researchers, and students for a focused discussion on ethical standards in scholarly work.
Asst. Prof. Seigfred V. Prado, Ph.D., SMIEEE opened the program with a session on the introduction to research ethics. His talk outlined foundational principles that guide ethical inquiry across disciplines, emphasizing accountability, transparency, and the protection of research participants and data.
Engr. Edgar Clyde R. Lopez, Ph.D. followed with a presentation on the Faculty of Engineering’s Research Ethics Committee guidelines. His session explained the policy rationale supporting ethical review, clarified submission procedures for research protocols, and walked participants through documentation requirements and review pathways. The discussion also addressed common concerns encountered by faculty and student researchers during the ethics clearance process, providing practical guidance for compliance and responsible study conduct.
Prof. Florence C. Navidad, EdD, RMT, RN completed the roster of speakers with a lecture on good research practices. Her presentation reinforced standards related to data management, authorship, publication integrity, and professional conduct in collaborative research settings.
The seminar formed part of a broader series of academic and professional development activities scheduled during Engineering Week. Participants engaged actively with the speakers through questions and discussion, reflecting a shared commitment to uphold ethical standards and responsible scholarship within the engineering community.
